Hanhart 417 Vintage – 1950

La montre que nous vous présentons est le chronographe 417 de la maison Hanhart. Ce modèle apparait au début des années 1940 à destination de l’armée Allemande, se fondant sur la décennie précédente où elle a fait de cet équipement sa spécialité, notamment par une Hanhart monopoussoir et son calibre 40 avant d’embrayer sur le calibre 41 à deux poussoirs au début des années 1940. Dans l’esprit, on retrouve évidemment l’idée des montres militaires Type XX, très lisible, aussi bien de jour que de nuit, et proposant un mouvement de chronographe avec la fonction retour en vol.

On sait qu’il y eu environ 1000 montres de ce genre produites, entre 500 et 600 en acier et le reste en laiton. Des pièces rares à trouver, de surcroit dans un bel état.

C’est une montre qui était appréciée de Steve McQueen. J’entends réellement appréciée, qu’il portait très souvent, au volant de ses automobiles ou au guidon de ses motos.

Plus précisément c’est un modèle HANHART CHRONOGRAPHE RÉF 417 Bundeseigentum (Propriété Fédérale) en laiton chromé dont la fabrication se situe au début des années 50 qui a équipé l’aviation allemande. Il est équipé d’un calibre 41 à remontage manuel, 17 rubis, fonds cliqué et de 39 mm de diamètre. Le placage est un assez bon état (quelques infime manque au bout des cornes) ce qui est très rare pour ces modèles.

The watch we are presenting is the Hanhart 417 chronograph. This model appeared in the early 1940s for the German army, building on the previous decade when it had made this equipment its speciality, notably with a single-pusher Hanhart and its calibre 40 before switching to the two-pusher calibre 41 in the early 1940s. The spirit of the Type XX military watches is clearly there, with its excellent legibility both day and night, and its chronograph movement with in-flight return function.

It is known that around 1000 watches of this type were produced, between 500 and 600 in steel and the rest in brass. Rare pieces to find, and in good condition.

It’s a watch that was loved by Steve McQueen. I mean really liked, and wore very often, at the wheel of his cars or on his motorbikes.

More precisely, it’s a HANHART CHRONOGRAPH REF 417 Bundeseigentum (Federal Property) in chromed brass, manufactured in the early 1950s and used by the German air force. It is fitted with a hand-wound calibre 41, 17 jewels, click back and measures 39 mm in diameter. The plating is in fairly good condition (a few tiny gaps at the tips of the lugs), which is very rare for these models.
